Lent can be difficlut at times, we feel bad when we give into temptations, we feel bad when we don’t do enough for Jesus.
It is important that we say encouraged and the Sacred Heart of Jesus devotion is the perfect place to start. The most wounded Heart of Our Lord offers us – perfect love, peace, and lots of graces and mercy! We are invited to discover His love so we can be transformed from the inside out. So offer Him “Love for Love.” and your actions will take on new meaning!
It is much easier to respond to the Lord in a true and loving way when we understand that the Lord desires a relationship with each one of us. So lets find encouragement in a few powerful quotes on the Sacred Heart of Jesus!
1. “Do not let the past disturb you- Just leave everything in the Sacred Heart and begin again with Joy.
-St. Teresa of Calcutta
This Lent may we let the past go- and focus on today! This is wonderful time to the year offers us a spiritual reset by going to Confession and seeking out the freedom and joy that comes from trusting everything to the heart of Jesus!
2. “Cling to God with all your heart.” St. Margaret Mary
What great advice, let us cling to God! Let us cling to Jesus and know that we need Him to get through our day. When we open our hearts to the Lord, like in the Scripture, Joel 2: 12-13,
Even now, says the LORD,
return to me with your whole heart,
with fasting, and weeping, and mourning;
Rend your hearts, not your garments,
We are invited during this Lenten journey to open wide our hearts to the Lord. This passage is an invitation to return to the Lord. We do this with signs of true repentance, fasting from the pleasures of this world, grieving for the impact our sin has had on us and others and mourning the areas we have gone astray.
3. “Jesus is the only true friend of our hearts.”- St. Margaret Mary
SO true! Don’t look for true friendship in others, save your heart for Jesus! This comes through small conversations throughout the say, little prayers said out of love and asking him to be with us in the good and hard times. When we receive holy communion we can be reminded that Jesus, desires to be united with us!
4. “May the peace of the adorable Heart of Jesus Christ ever fill our hearts so that nothing may be able to disturb our serenity! ” – St. Margaret Mary
Jesus wants to give us peace! In another time he tells St. Margaret Mary, “my heart is a paradise of peace.” This is a great time to discover this peace and work on cultivating His peace verse looking to the “fixes”of the world that hold us back from loving Jesus.
5. “I am convinced that He wants to establish His reign through the gentleness and sweetness of His love rather than by the rigor of His justice. “- St Margaret Mary, (Letters, page. 164)
Let us allow Hiim to come into our hearts and home and reign through gentleness and sweetness! How can we bring more of the Lord’s love to others?
In the book, Saints of the Sacred Heart, I share that we need to focus on the kind of heart Jesus wants us to have! Our hearts need to more like Jesus and this take time to cultivate virtue, seek out new graces and be aware of our actions! Let us not question if we have a heart, but rather seek His Heart, and know that Jesus wants us to be people of kindness, service, love, prayer, and even action! In the closing pages of the book, there is a powerful prayer for families that states: “Lord make our family a holy family. Let your love spring up from our hearts and heal us from the inside out. Strengthen our relationships, comfort us when we feel pain, and bring us graces when we need them. “ (Saints of the Sacred Heart, page. 25)

Simple actions and great news:
Expose and honor the image in your home, prepare your heart for the Consecration of the United States in June, 2026. We can do this by allowing Jesus to reign in our hearts, consider also the Enthronement of the Sacred Heart- building the Convent of Love by welcoming the Lord into our homes, schools, workplaces and parishes.
I also have to share that this past weekend, over 2,300 men consecrated their hearts to the Sacred Heart with Bishop Earl K. Fernandes, at the Columbus Catholic Men’s Conference. This simple act is a powerful way to compliment anyone in their Lenten Journey! The Bishop invited all the men to lead with meek and humble hearts like Jesus! This ties great with our desire to be more like Jesus!
