I will be their secure refuge during life, and above all, in death

In the tumult of life’s uncertainties, there’s a profound comfort in knowing that we can find refuge in the Sacred Heart of Jesus. As Psalm 31 beautifully articulates, He is our secure stronghold, our rock of salvation, both in life and in the face of death. Reflecting on this truth, we’re reminded of Jesus’ own words on the cross, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit” (Luke 23:46), this very phrase is expressed in Psalm 31 as well. It’s a powerful declaration of trust and surrender, one that resonates deeply with our own yearning for placing our trust in Jesus. St. Margaret Mary invites us to encounter the Heart of Jesus and make His Heart, our refuge during our entire life journey, even in our passing.

In our walk of faith, making the Sacred Heart of Jesus our refuge isn’t just a one-time decision but a daily practice. Here are some practical ways we can embody this truth in our lives:

Daily Prayer:

Establishing a consistent rhythm of prayer allows us to commune with the Sacred Heart of Jesus, pouring out our hearts and entrusting our cares to Him. Through prayer, we acknowledge our dependence on His strength and wisdom to navigate life’s challenges. Consider having an image of the Sacred Heart (or two) so you can spend some time in prayer.

Here is our powerful daily prayer we recommend to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Pray it and share it with others!

Daily Entrustment:

Each morning, as we awaken to a new day, let’s consciously entrust ourselves to the Sacred Heart of Jesus afresh. This act of surrender acknowledges His sovereignty over our lives and invites Him to guide and sustain us throughout the day. Here is the Daily Morning Prayer:

O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary,

I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day

for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart

in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world,

for the salvation of souls, the reparation of sins, the reunion of all Christians,

and in particular for the intentions of the Holy Father this month.

Amen.

Avoiding Temptation:

Awareness of our vulnerabilities empowers us to steer clear of situations or behaviors that might lead us astray. By relying on the Holy Spirit’s strength, we can resist temptation and remain anchored in the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Choosing Joy:

Even amidst trials and tribulations, we can cultivate a spirit of gratitude and joy, knowing that our hope rests secure in the Sacred Heart of Jesus. By fixing our eyes on Him, we find reasons to rejoice regardless of our circumstances.

Surrendering Control:

Letting go of our need to control outcomes frees us to embrace God’s plans and purposes for our lives. Surrendering our will to the Sacred Heart of Jesus allows us to experience His peace and provision in profound ways.

O Jesus, I surrender myself to You, take care of everything!

Living for His Glory:

At the heart of it all is a desire to live our lives in such a way that brings glory to God. Whether it’s through acts of service, obedience to His commands, or stewarding our resources for His kingdom, may our lives reflect His goodness and grace.

As we journey through each day, let’s make it our aim to find refuge in the Sacred Heart of Jesus. May His presence be our constant companion, guiding us through life’s highs and lows, and may our hearts be ever attuned to His voice. In Him, we find our safe haven, our shelter from the storms, and our ultimate source of hope and security.
