THE BLESSED MOTHER AND ST. JOHN •
The devotion began with Jesus’ mother and St. John the Evangelist. Both heard the heartbeat of Jesus and were at the foot of the cross where the heart, full of unfathomable love, was pierced with a sword. His heart cleanses us from our sins and baptizes us into a new life of love.
ST. GERTRUDE THE GREAT •
In the 1200s, St. Gertrude received visions in which she placed her head on Jesus’ chest. She spoke about the divine beauty and power of Jesus’ heart that yearns to love us.
ST. MARGARET MARY ALACOQUE •
The practice of the devotion to the Sacred Heart came from a series of visions to St. Margaret Mary from 1673 to 1675. During these visions, Christ asked that this devotion spread, and He gave 12 promises to those who expose and honor the Sacred Heart image.
FR. MATEO CRAWLEY-BOEVEY •
In the early 1900s, Fr. Mateo spread the practice of placing Jesus on the throne of authority in homes.
